Celebrating Omaha’s African American Arts & Culture
“Omaha means OMAHA.” Preston Love
Hello Viewers!! A few weeks ago I was helping a friend put the finishing touches on her wedding. She asked me to go with her to the reception site, which was Loves’ Jazz & Art Center. I was completely amazed by the center’s appeal when I walked through the doors. I knew immediately that I had to do a show about Loves’ Jazz. The center has been celebrating African American arts in Omaha for three years and is one of many renovations taking place in the historic north Omaha area.
In the short website documentary, the late Preston Love states, “Omaha means OMAHA”. I find that quote to be a common thread when I’m talking with Omaha natives. There are so many people like Preston Love, who are from Omaha, moved away for a bit, and choose to return to the comforts of home. The Loves’ Jazz & Art Center captures the magic that is innately Omaha (a.k.a home).
Oh, I should tell you that the wedding reception was beautiful. Loves’ Jazz serves as a wonderful backdrop for the celebration of marriage.
Thanks for watching and Blessings!!
Karly
